Vielight begins clinical trial for Alzheimer´s disease

KUALA LUMPUR, June 7 (Bernama) — Vielight Inc, a leader in brain photobiomodulation (PBM) technology, announced the primary site for its pivotal clinical trial, St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto, has been activated.

The hospital is the first among the eight sites that will carry out the study.

Conducted across North America, the trial will be a randomised, placebo-controlled study involving 228 subjects with moderate to severe cognitive impairment due to Alzheimer’s disease.

The protocol of the study has been reviewed by the US Food and Drug Administration and Health Canada.

The device in investigation, called the ‘Vielight Neuro RX Gamma’, is based on Vielight’s proprietary PBM technology which directs near infrared light, pulsing at the gamma rate of 40 Hz, to selected regions of the brain.

The procedure is non-invasive and the device has been designed to be suitable for home-use.

Subject to regulatory clearance, the device will be indicated for Alzheimer patients with moderate to severe impairment, the group that demands the most care and has the largest economic burden.

The trial will be independently managed by the Applied Health Research Centre, a methodology centre affiliated with St Michael’s Hospital.

Hoxworth Blood Center, Biolog-id jointly manage blood products in Cincinnati

KUALA LUMPUR, May 29 (Bernama) — Blood bond. The Hoxworth Blood Center, a public institution belonging to the University of Cincinnati and Biolog-id have signed a partnership contract to manage blood products in Cincinnati, Ohio.

The blood centre has implemented the Biolog Transfusion®, an RFID Blood Supply Management solution in order to better track the flow of platelet concentrates and red blood cell concentrates.

The Biolog-id solution was first implemented in 2018 to focus on the distribution and inventory management of Platelet Concentrates between the centre and four nearby hospitals.

This year, it is also covering the Phenotyped Red Blood Cell Concentrates managed by the blood centre’s Immunohematology Reference Laboratory.

The laboratory provides testing and consultation to assist hospitals in solving patients’ red blood cell serological problems.

The implementation of the Biolog-Transfusion® in the Hoxworth Blood Center ensures the availability of platelet concentrates and their on-time delivery while reducing the risk of wastage.

“As of today, we are satisfied with the Biolog-id solution for platelets, as well as their professional and committing team,” said blood centre director, Jose A. Cancelas.

Extension on the overall blood product production and supply is under consideration by the Hoxworth Blood Center.

Hangzhou gastronomical delights target ´important window´ at Asian Cuisine Festival

KUALA LUMPUR, May 15 (Bernama) — The Asian Cuisine Festival is expected to present Hangzhou’s bid to become an important window for socialism with Chinese characteristics for a new era and build a unique global city.

The ‘Taste of Hangzhou’ will leverage the city’s profound historical culture and digital economic development strengths to showcase its allures and promote exchanges between cuisines of Hangzhou and Chinese and the Asian food culture.

During the festival, Hangzhou will also launch culinary culture tours for global tourists.

Senior official with the city’s Culture, Radio, Television and Tourism Bureau, Zhang Ansheng said Hangzhou would design and roll out tours to explore the city’s food, places of interest and tea.

In addition to culture, Hangzhou will also present its innovative spirit and social development achievements to the Asian peoples.

Hangzhou ‘urban brain’ which highlights current digital economy development will use its intelligent services such as consultation, reservation and evaluation to open digital food lines along the Hangzhou-Huangshan high-speed railway during the festival.

Users can customise the line, according to their own preferences and all the itineraries can be generated with bookings by just a single click.

Resembling a set of Chinese-style tableware, the logo for the Asian Cuisine Festival was selected from nearly 500 works collected worldwide, featuring a combination of Chinese bowls, chopsticks, Chinese seal and West Lake.

Baise City, Guangxi hosts sports events to accelerate red tourism growth

KUALA LUMPUR, May 14 (Bernama) — To drive the growth of red tourism, Baise Municipal Government recently sponsored the National Hiking Convention, Baise, ‘Journey to the Centre of the Earth’ Event (Lingyun, Leye).

The event was jointly sponsored by the Chinese Mountaineering Association and Sports Bureau of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

With the participation of over 600 outdoor sports enthusiasts, this was the fifth time the sports event was held in the Lingyun and Leye counties.

Both counties are noted for their marvellous scenery and hospitable local folk reputation as regions of longevity and prime destination for adventurous fans of outdoor sports.

This year marks the 90th anniversary of the momentous Baise Uprising, and Baise City will host the 14th Sports Meeting of Guangxi.

Seizing this opportunity, the city will speed up construction of sports infrastructure facilities, dedicate emphatic efforts to positioning and building itself as a strong sports city, accelerate creation of a healthy Baise and help fuel the growth of red tourism.
