PW POWER SYSTEMS DELIVERS BRIGHTER HOLIDAYS FOR PUERTO RICO

Mobile power generation assets will also secure the electric grid and complement renewables

GLASTONBURY, Conn., Dec 6 (Bernama-BUSINESS WIRE) — PW Power Systems (PWPS), the leading provider of aero-derivative power generation energy solutions, announces that PREPA (Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority) has three, PWPS FT8® MOBILEPAC® gas turbines ready for operation. The 30-megawatt mobile gas turbine units are now available for emergency power, as well as for grid security in support of Puerto Rico’s environmental sustainability plan. PWPS supported ARG Precision Corporation, which completed the turnkey installation of the FT8 MOBILEPAC dual-fuel capacity gas turbines at the Palo Seco Power Plant in Toa Baja.

Puerto Rico Governor Wanda Vazquez said, “The three generators provide the opportunity for fast response in the event of an emergency or situation where we lose energy in the metropolitan area. In eight to ten minutes we can energize the system and provide electricity to about 40,000 customers. Critical services such as hospitals in the metropolitan area will also have that security.”

“The three mega-generators can meet the demand for facilities such as the Bayamón Regional Hospital, the Río Piedras Medical Center, and the Golden Mile in Hato Rey, as well as safeguard the daily operations of the Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport in Isla Verde,” confirmed Jose Ortiz, Executive Director of PREPA. “Although they are physically located at the Palo Seco plant, the equipment is portable, so they can be moved to isolated areas that, during emergencies, do not have transmission capacity,” continued Ortiz.

“As Puerto Rico transforms its grid architecture, the availability of the FT8 MOBILEPAC brings instant peace of mind to PREPA and its customers,” noted PWPS President and CEO Raul Pereda. “For the long term, this technology is a multi-faceted solution that helps to achieve resilience when extreme weather hits and allows PREPA to move toward integration with the new renewable portfolio standard. Its energy efficiency and fast-start demand response provide significant flexibility when dealing with the challenge of uncertain load forecasts and supplies reliable power when Puerto Rico needs it most.”

Peru selects Everbridge to power countrywide disaster alert platform

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 3 — Everbridge Inc has been selected by Peru’s Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MTC) to power the nation’s Sistema de Mensajería de Alerta Temprana de Emergencia (Sismate), Peru’s Early Warning Emergency Messaging System.

In a statement, the global leader in critical event management said the appointment marked the completion of contract negotiations with the MTC that Everbridge had initially disclosed in September, without naming the country.

After the Sismate is deployed, it will be activated once Peru’s National Institute of Civil Defense detects a major incident.

The system, powered by Everbridge Public Warning, will send critical messages to mobile phones before, during and after the emergency.

Sismate alerts can also be used in drills and to provide support in search and rescue operations.

It is designed to serve over 37 million people, including Peru’s 33 million residents and four million annual visitors.

In addition to Peru, Everbridge Public Warning has been deployed to reach the mobile populations on a countrywide scale in Sweden, Iceland, the Netherlands, Singapore, Greece and a number of the largest states in India, and is currently being implemented in Australia.

Everbridge is the first population alerting provider to support four EU countries in conjunction with the recent EU mandate requiring member countries to have a population-wide alerting system in place by June 2022.

Phenomics Health Inc acquires patented pharmacometabolomic technology

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 22 — Phenomics Health Inc, a bioinformatics platform-based precision medicine company has acquired the patented pharmacometabolomic technology portfolio of Precera Bioscience, based in Franklin, Tenn.

The company plans to integrate the new technology with its own patented, advanced pharmacogenomics platform to offer healthcare providers a more complete view of patients’ potential and actual response to medications than is currently available.

To be marketed under the Prec?sMed brand and licensed to clinical laboratories and healthcare systems, this patented pharmacometabolomic technology enables detection, quantitative measurement and comprehensive assessment of more than 200 medications in a patient’s bloodstream.

“Prec?sMed could help improve patient treatment outcomes, avoid adverse drug reactions and reduce patient treatment costs – the real definition of precision medicine,” said Phenomics Health co-founder, chairman and president, Dr James S. Burns.

Combined with Phenomics Health’s technology, the resulting information from Prec?sMed will help clinicians personalise drug therapy by determining what medications and dose a patient is actually taking (whether prescribed or not), drug-drug interactions and how genetics may impact the body’s ability to process those medications.

Phenomics Health also plans to use the information gathered from de-identified patient population data to inform its machine learning and AI-based bioinformatics platform, which can be mined for present and future research.
