China’s Horse Capital Xilingiol League aims for equine industry growth

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 17 — Xilingol League in north China boasts rich grassland and Mongolian horse culture, as well as enjoys unique equine industry development resources.

It is also the core birthplace of the world famous horse breed, ‘Mongolian Horse’ and was honoured as ‘Chinese Capital of Horses’ by the China Horse Industry Association in 2010.

Xilingol League has extended its industrial chain around the development of the ‘Chinese Capital of Horses’ cultural industry gathering area in recent years, promoting equine culture, tourism, competition, products and other related fields with remarkable progress.

As the core area of ‘Chinese Capital of Horses’, Xilinhot City has implemented a number of key projects such as the cultural ecotourism area, set up the Zhongyun Horse Industry Group and hosted top equestrian events at home and abroad.

The projects promote the transformation and development of the traditional equine industry into a modern one and boost the horse capital’s reputation and influence.

Xilingol League has also cultivated a number of well-known equine cultural tourism festival brands such as the ‘White Horse Culture Festival’ and ‘Dark Horse Culture Festival’.

Local governments have leveraged traditional Mongolian festivals to develop various tourism products and roll out projects like leisure riding and equestrian performances.

Global new account fraud rose 27.8 pct in 2019 – Jumio Holiday Fraud Report

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 13 — Global new account fraud has increased 27.8 per cent this year, compared to full-year 2018 results, according to new data from Jumio.

Surprisingly, attempted new account fraud was 19 per cent less during the Black Friday/Cyber Monday weekend (compared to the average 2019 fraud levels), when fraud attempts normally escalate.

In the third edition of Jumio’s Holiday New Account Fraud Report, fraud is defined as an attempt by an individual to create a new online account by manipulating a government-issued ID.

Jumio, the leading AI-powered trusted identity as a service provider also analysed new account fraud levels across regions, countries, industries and time period.

The Asia-Pacific region experienced the highest rates of full-year fraud at 3.27 per cent while the United States had the lowest rates of fraud at 0.88 per cent – a trend which has been pretty consistent over the last six years.

In addition, the fraud levels in emerging markets, while varied, were significantly higher than developed markets.

The cryptocurrency and online gaming/gambling industries experienced higher-than-average fraud levels while the sharing economy and travel and entertainment industries experienced minimal fraud levels (less than 0.6 per cent).

Often, the first step in identity theft starts by creating a new account online. Identity theft is the deliberate use of someone else’s identity (name, address, Social Security number, bank accounts) to get money and credit and make holiday purchases.

But, identity theft is also being used to perpetrate online fraud, steal property, falsify educational and other credentials, access healthcare and launder money.

AJC CONDUCTED A WORKSHOP ON GASTRONOMY TOURISM IN WAKAYAMA, JAPAN FOR TOURISM STAKEHOLDERS FROM THE ASEAN MEMBER STATES

TOKYO, Dec 10 (Bernama-BUSINESS WIRE) — The ASEAN-Japan Centre (AJC) conducted a “Workshop on Sustainable Tourism: Gastronomy Tourism” from 17 to 23 November 2019 in Wakayama Prefecture, Japan. It was organized for the management-level stakeholders in tourism of the ASEAN Member States to learn cases of gastronomy tourism in Wakayama Prefecture. A total of 12 participants joined this workshop.

This press release features multimedia. View the full release here: https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20191209005312/en/

The participants first received lectures on Japan’s recent overseas travel market trend and gastronomy tourism at Wakayama University. They also delivered presentations on their own country’s gastronomy tourism at the university.

From the following day, the group visited gastronomy tourism sites in Wakayama Prefecture which were arranged with the support of Wakayama Prefectural Government. Buddhist vegetarian food served at Shukubo (temple lodging) in Koyasan is a famous gastronomic attraction, but Wakayama has many more gastronomic tourism attractions. The participants visited and experienced fruit picking, tuna bidding and tuna can making, a unique agritourism venue which used to be a school building, and a traditional soy sauce manufacturer in Yuasa town, the birthplace of soy sauce. The group also visited Tanabe City Kumano Tourism Bureau, which promotes the world heritage Kumano Kodo Pilgrimage Route in a sustainable manner with the local community.

Participants commented that they experienced different gastronomic attractions of the locality by visiting different places. Some were surprised by the uniqueness of Shukubo in Koyasan, as temples in their countries are not open to visitors to stay overnight.

Sometimes referred to as “from farm to table,” gastronomy tourism can provide a variety of experience-based activities starting from growing and harvesting food ingredients to cooking and tasting food. Such activities are suitable for repeat-travelers who seek unique experiences and can be applied in the ASEAN Member States to further provide programs for visitors to experience and know about food and culture of the Member States. It is expected that this workshop will help the development of the unique and sustainable tourism products to introduce rich food culture of the ASEAN Member States.

The AJC will continue to make efforts to enhance sustainable tourism development in the ASEAN Member States by providing capacity-building programmes for tourism stakeholders by highlighting Japanese gastronomy tourism cases.

INCHEON, South Korea, Dec 10 (Bernama-BUSINESS WIRE) — The Incheon Metropolitan City government announced an ambitious plan for developing the Songdo Global Biotech Cluster in the Incheon Free Economic Zone.

Aiming to attract global advanced biotechnology companies and research institutions, the City authorities will expand the industrial complex by adding the 11th Songdo industrial block with space of 990,000 square meters to the 4th, 5th and 7th Songdo industrial blocks with space of 910,000 square meters. They will develop Songdo region as the world-level global biotech hub by connecting the industrial complex with projected nearby Songdo Severance Hospital and a science park.

The City government has been concentrating efforts on expanding investors’ base. In 2018, it conducted investor relations activities in Switzerland to look into technology and business trends of the biotech industry in the country. Representatives of the City visited Novartis, a world-level bio-pharmaceutical company, to discuss the possibility of investing in the biotech cluster. Gudel Lineartec Co. Ltd., a Switzerland-based industrial robot manufacturer, established its facilities in Songdo region in 2005. And several Switzerland-based companies, including Roche, Novartis, and Bioengineering, built partnerships with biotech companies in Songdo. Also, biotech companies in the City took part in the Europe Biotech Forum, the largest event in the industry in Europe.

Targeting to analyze major tasks for expanding the Songdo Biotech Cluster and work out a feasible master plan by the end of the year, the City government is currently conducting contracted research. The research includes ways of exploring demand for new investors, attracting major facilities, and fostering Korean biotech companies in the cluster.

“Songdo complex achieved remarkable growth in the global bio-pharmaceutical market, and inducement of more investment by advanced global pharmaceutical companies and establishment of partnerships with them are essential for building a world-level biotech cluster,” said Park Nam-choon, Mayor of Incheon City. “We are committed to contributing to the growth of bio-pharmaceutical industry in Korea by supplementing vulnerable chains in developing the Songdo Global Biotech Cluster through the creation of a more convenient environment for investing by global pharmaceutical companies and maximization of research and development capabilities of Korean industry.”
