KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 1 (Bernama) — A two-week China-Europe “Study Abroad Program” themed “Encountering the Kite Capital” has concluded at Shandong Vocational College of Science and Technology in Weifang, Shandong Province, bringing seven Italian university students from Perugia to China for cultural exchange, classes and city tours.
During the programme, the students explored traditional Chinese culture through activities including tie-dyeing and leather carving, gaining hands-on experience with local intangible cultural heritage.
A highlight was trying on traditional Chinese clothing designed and made by students and faculty from the college’s Department of Textile and Garment. Vanessa, Sara, Irene and their fellow students dressed in Hanfu and Qipao, experiencing traditional Chinese aesthetics firsthand.
In a statement, the vocational college said Vanessa wore a Tang Dynasty-style wide-sleeved robe made from silk-like fabric, featuring a floral medallion pattern inspired by the murals of Dunhuang.
Sara wore a Tang-style jacket-and-skirt ensemble in yellow-green and orange, inspired by Tang Sancai glazed pottery, with a high waist and flowing silhouette while Irene wore a fitted purple embroidered Qipao featuring delicate buttons and a refined neckline.
For Vanessa, wearing Hanfu for the first time was the most memorable part of the trip, while Sara praised the craftsmanship and rich cultural heritage embodied in the traditional clothing.
The students said they would take their memories of Weifang home, share their experiences of China and help promote friendship and cultural understanding between young people in China and Italy.
