Shape Memory Medical Secures $10 Million Financing Led by August Global Partners to Advance Aortic Clinical Programs

SAN JOSE, Calif., Aug 24 (Bernama-BUSINESS WIRE) — Shape Memory Medical Inc., developer of proprietary shape memory polymer technology for endovascular embolization, today announced the closing of a $10 million convertible note financing led by new investor August Global Partners (AGP), joined by fellow new investor Taiwania Capital.

The financing provides capital to support continued clinical development of the company’s aortic portfolio, including patient follow-up and data collection in the AAA-SHAPE Pivotal Trial, and advancement of the FLAGSHIP feasibility trial. Shape Memory Medical is backed by a global syndicate of healthcare investors that includes HBM Healthcare Investments (Cayman) Ltd., Earlybird Venture Capital, and WexMed II, LLC.

“This financing strengthens our position as we enter a potentially transformative period for the company,” said Ted Ruppel, President and Chief Executive Officer of Shape Memory Medical. “With enrollment recently completed in our AAA-SHAPE Pivotal Trial and continued progress in FLAGSHIP, we are focused on generating the clinical evidence needed to support the broader adoption of our shape memory polymer technology in aortic applications. We are pleased to welcome August Global Partners and Taiwania Capital as investors and appreciate the continued support of our existing shareholders as we advance these important clinical programs.” The financing was supported by HEAL Venture Lab.

The AAA‑SHAPE Pivotal Trial is evaluating the safety and effectiveness of the IMPEDE‑FX RapidFill® Device when used alongside endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) to proactively manage the abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) sac. The randomized, multicenter study recently completed enrollment and will follow patients for five years.

FLAGSHIP (False Lumen Treatment for Prevention of Aortic Growth Using Shape Memory Polymer) is a first-in-human clinical study evaluating Shape Memory Medical’s investigational False Lumen Embolization (FLE) System for treatment of aortic dissection false lumen. The study is designed to evaluate safety and preliminary signs of efficacy and will follow patients for two years.

“For decades, clinicians treating aortic aneurysms and dissections have relied on materials repurposed from other procedures, never engineered for the job. Shape Memory Medical set out to change that with a shape memory polymer platform engineered for embolization, designed to work alongside the stent graft and address a clear unmet clinical need,” said Davian Sim, Partner at August Global Partners. “With AAA-SHAPE fully enrolled and FLAGSHIP advancing, the company is at an inflection point, and the data ahead will define it. We look forward to working with Ted and the team through these milestones, and to supporting the company’s growth in Asia-Pacific as the platform expands globally.”

Shape Memory Medical’s proprietary shape memory polymer platform utilizes a low-density, highly porous embolic material that is delivered through a catheter in a compressed form and self-expands upon contact with blood. The bioresorbable material is designed to promote organized thrombus formation, adapt to complex vascular anatomy, and maintain radiolucency to facilitate imaging during patient follow-up.

Resilient Destinations Recover Faster – TOURISE Report

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 18 (Bernama) — TOURISE, in collaboration with Oxford Economics, has released a new report on tourism resilience in an era of permanent disruption, analysing 85 major crises over two decades.

The report shows that in a world defined by continuous shocks, destinations that act before disruption hits recover up to 1.5 times faster than those that wait.

“In a world that does not reset between crises, disruption is a constant feature of the global tourism landscape. The real test for destinations measures how they prepare for volatility, protect traveller confidence, and maintain continuity ahead of such events,” said Saudi Arabia Tourism Minister and TOURISE Chairman, Ahmed Al-Khateeb in a statement.

Using the current Middle East crisis as a lens, where Gulf hubs carry roughly 14 per cent of global transit traffic, the report provides investors and policymakers with practical guidance for navigating a system in which disruption is now the norm.

The report models three pathways for the current crisis. Global travel is expected to grow about six per cent in 2026 if the ceasefire holds, fall about one per cent if hostilities resume, and decline about three per cent under sustained disruption, remaining weak into 2027. The report concludes that recovery is determined less by the crisis itself than by how quickly confidence, connectivity and affordability can be restored.

In addition, the report finds that confidence now travels faster than people. In 2025, viral rumours of a megaquake drove booking declines of up to 50 per cent from some East Asian markets despite having no scientific basis, showing how misinformation can depress demand before any physical disruption.

Furthermore, tourism is recovering faster, but systemic crises are the new test. Average recovery times fell from about 24 months in the early 2000s to 10 to 12 months today. However, increasingly complex, multi-country disruptions are beginning to slow this trend.

The report also found that preparation is becoming a competitive advantage. Despite regional volatility, Saudi Arabia welcomed 37.2 million tourists in the first quarter of 2026, an eight per cent year-on-year increase, and reached its 100 million annual-visitor target seven years early, illustrating how diversification under Saudi Vision 2030 translates into measurable resilience.

Arla Foods Ingredients reduces gas emissions through significant investment in Videbæk

VIDEBÆK, Denmark, Aug 19 (Bernama-GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Arla Foods Ingredients is taking a major step towards reducing its CO2 emissions on dairy level. A newly completed 8 million euro investment in a new heating system for Production Tower 4 at the Danmark Protein plant in Videbæk will deliver annual savings of 2,500 tonnes of CO2, equivalent to the annual heating consumption of more than 900 households using natural gas.

As part of the project, the tower is being converted from operating with a gas heater to being able to switch between heat from the plant’s existing steam system and a new electric heater. This will reduce the use of natural gas and allow renewable electricity to take over part of the operation. Calculations show that Tower 4 will be able to operate 100% on renewable electricity for 23% of the time.

“This investment improves operational reliability, strengthen security of supply and reduce our climate impact.” says Mogens Bøgh Pedersen, Director of the Danmark Protein plant.

Electrification significantly reduces CO2 emissions

Switching between steam and electricity allows Arla Foods Ingredients to use electricity when wind and solar power drive prices down and reduce consumption when prices rise, supporting flexible consumption in the Danish power grid while creating a strong financial business case.

The new solution is an important part of Arla’s strategy to electrify production and provides greater flexibility in energy consumption, enhanced reliability and opportunities for future development.

While the new heating system in Tower 4 is now operational, a similar project is being planned for Tower 5. Together, the investments in Towers 4 and 5 will reduce CO2 emissions by up to 5,200 tonnes annually, equivalent to the annual heating consumption of more than 1,900 households.

“In addition to delivering substantial CO2e savings, this investment also represents a very strong business case. We will also seek to scale across our other sites,” says Paul van Rooij, Vice President, Supply Chain, Arla Foods Ingredients.

Facts about the investment

  • Investment in new heating system for Tower 4: approx. EUR 8.3 million
  • Annual CO2 reduction (Tower 4): approx. 2,500 tonnes
  • Total potential (Towers 4 + 5): up to 5,200 tonnes of CO2
  • Based on Danish Energy Agency standards, 2,500 tonnes of CO2 corresponds to the annual heating consumption of 919 households, while 5,200 tonnes corresponds to 1,911 households.

Rystad Energy Innovate: a new vision for energy intelligence in the AI era

Spektra reaches full commercial launch at Rystad Energy Innovate on 20 August 2026

Oslo, Norway, Aug 19 (Bernama-GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Rystad Energy will set out a new vision for energy intelligence in the AI era at Innovate, an online broadcast on 20 August 2026. The event marks the full commercial launch of Spektra, Rystad Energy’s AI-native market intelligence platform, and is open to clients and the market.

The way the energy industry accesses and uses data is changing. Spektra launched in beta in June 2026, giving clients access to a platform that brings Rystad Energy’s full commercial databases into a single workspace. Users can create unlimited workspaces to suit their workflows, bringing together data from multiple datasets, eliminating the need to switch between tools. Innovate is the moment Spektra moves to full commercial availability, and the complete story is told publicly for the first time.

For two decades, Rystad Energy has built the data the energy industry runs on. Spektra is the next step: a single system that combines powerful data exploration in web-based workspaces, plus MCP connectors and an API gateway, giving energy professionals the flexibility to access and integrate Rystad Energy data in the way that works best for them. The platform draws on millions of energy assets globally, including 85,000+ oil and gas fields, more than 2 million wells, and 200,000+ conventional and renewable energy power plants, all independently sourced and verified.

“Energy markets are becoming more complex, and the demand for faster, more reliable intelligence is only growing. Spektra is built for that new reality and is designed around how energy professionals actually work, giving swift and flexible access to the most reliable energy data in the industry. The platform is easy and intuitive to use, but also with the depth needed for the most sophisticated users. At Innovate, we will show what Rystad Energy’s reinvention as an AI-native data platform means in practice, and where we are taking energy intelligence next,” said Lars Eirik Nicolaisen, Deputy CEO, Rystad Energy.

At Innovate, Rystad Energy will demonstrate the full AI ecosystem live: AskRystad, MCP and the Microsoft 365 Copilot integration, alongside how the data now reaches directly into the tools the industry already uses. Clients who shaped Spektra will take the stage, sharing how the platform has changed the way they work. Partner integrations with HSBC, SLB, Quorum and FutureOn will show how Rystad Energy data reaches the operational tools the industry depends on.

“Energy professionals need trusted intelligence they can act on quickly. By bringing Rystad Energy’s proprietary data into Microsoft 365 Copilot through MCP, we are integrating two decades of industry expertise directly into their flow of work. The result is faster access to critical insights, more informed decisions, and greater business impact across the organizations that rely on this intelligence,” said Per Christian Honningsvåg, General Manager, Energy and Resources, Microsoft.

Rystad Energy Innovate takes place on Thursday, 20 August 2026, broadcast from the Rystad Energy Oslo studio. The event is open to clients and the market. Register now.

BEANSTALK LAUNCHES MONSOON VENTURES TO SUPPORT SOUTHEAST ASIAN AGTECH

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 11 (Bernama) — Beanstalk AgTech has launched Monsoon Ventures, a new venture studio in Singapore backed by Enterprise Singapore (EnterpriseSG) and Rabo Foundation, to support founders in Southeast Asia in commercialising agricultural technology (agtech) solutions.

The studio will initially focus on Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, the Philippines and Singapore, with an initial investment of SG$1.2 million. It aims to support up to eight ventures in its first two years and build more than 30 scalable ventures within five years. (SG$1 = RM3.19)

Beanstalk said Monsoon Ventures will focus on agtech solutions that can improve smallholder farmer livelihoods, environmental outcomes and regional food security, addressing what it described as a commercialisation gap that often prevents technologies from moving from proof-of-concept to market.

The studio will provide capital, commercial expertise and support in developing value chain pathways, while helping ventures attract investors and strategic partnerships with regional players.

Beanstalk AgTech Director, Justin Ahmed said the company’s Australian venture studio had helped innovators raise more than AUD$22 million and launch 15 commercial products over the past two years.

“In Southeast Asia, the challenges facing science commercialisation are even more magnified, which is exactly why we are launching Monsoon Ventures here,” he said in a statement.

Supported by EnterpriseSG and Rabo Foundation, Monsoon Ventures will use a blended finance model combining philanthropic, public and private capital to support both impact and commercial outcomes. EnterpriseSG’s support is aligned with its goal of establishing Singapore as an agrifood solutions hub for the region, while Rabo Foundation is providing catalytic capital to support smallholder resilience.

Beanstalk has operated in Southeast Asia’s innovation ecosystem for eight years and previously ran the agtech-focused Drought Venture Studio in Australia. Monsoon Ventures is its first venture studio in Southeast Asia.
