KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 16 — China’s domestic tourism, in particular in Xi’an, saw a robust rebound over the just-ended Golden Week holiday.

According to data by the Xi’an Municipal People’s Government, during the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holiday this year, Xi’an received 14.7481 million tourists and recorded tourism revenue of 11.14 billion yuan. (100 yuan = RM61.829)

From a horizontal comparison of Chinese cities in terms of the number of tourists received, Xi’an ranked second out of the top 10 popular tourist destinations in China.

According to a statement, this year’s National Day holiday is the first Golden Week since China returned to normalcy with epidemic prevention and control.

The eight-day holiday initially drove people to travel, contributing to gradual recovery of the transportation sector, such as travel via airlines, railways and automobiles. Such strong travel demand led to a significant recovery in holiday tourism.

Due to the global epidemic, people mostly chose domestic tourist destinations, but still the recovery of China’s tourism market has sent a ‘positive signal’ to the world. To visit Xi’an has become a shared expectation of people from many other countries.

World renowned news agency Reuters has published a special issue to promote the image of Xi’an, presenting how ‘Ancient and Modern Collide’ in the spellbinding ancient capital from multiple angles.

Through 10 impressive articles, Reuters highlighted the capital’s history, culture, nature, sports, scholarship, music, gourmet, technology and urban development.

AJC IDENTIFIES VULNERABLE INDUSTRIES BY CALCULATING THE RISK INTENSITY OF VALUE CHAINS TO EXTERNAL SHOCKS IN THEIR RECENT REPORT ON RESILIENT GVCS FOR ASEAN

The report “Resilient Global Value Chains for ASEAN and its Relationship with Partner Countries” is available for download on AJC website. (Graphic: Business Wire)

TOKYO, Oct 16 (Bernama-BUSINESS WIRE) — In the publication, entitled Resilient Global Value Chains (GVCs) for ASEAN and its Relationship with Partner Countries published by the ASEAN-Japan Centre (AJC) today, AJC proposed that each country and each company in ASEAN engaged in international production networks should examine its vulnerability of value chains to external risks in the respective industry with possible reference to the AJC’s risk calculation.

This press release features multimedia. View the full release here: https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20201015006128/en/ There has been a series of calls at the international and regional levels for strengthening and rebuilding value chains since the outbreak of COVID-19. Although this is a natural consequence of efficient procurement, when their supply or distribution chains are concentrated in a few firms and a few countries, companies have always a legitimate concern as to whether they will continue to receive required materials and inputs from suppliers. Then, the question is where and at what stage the value chain is concentrated.

In response to this question, AJC calculated the degree of risks of value chains to external shocks and identified which industries tend to be more vulnerable to risks. Two types of risks — risks that affect the upstream part of GVCs (supplier market concentration) and those that affect the downstream part of GVCs (buyer market concentration) — are considered.

Looking at concentration by partner in the supplier market, China is by far the most important supplier to many industries in ASEAN. China occupies a market share that enhances its market power enough to cause a competitive concern in more than half of ASEAN Member States’ standardized 222 industries (129). Japan occupies 38 industries. With regards to the buyer market concentration, China does not figure as the main buyer in many industries (only 11 industries where its market concentration is influential). Japan occupies 24 industries.

Further, AJC proposed a set of five strategies to build resilient GVCs in ASEAN. They include:

  • Utilization of pandemic-related policy measures and actions implemented by ASEAN Member States
  • Improvement in risk management by the private sector
  • Strong push for digital transformation by both public and private sectors
  • Promoting new and crisis-resistant industries
  • Reconsidering company strategies for international production: offshoring or reshoring

For effectively dealing with the COVID-19 crisis and its economic aftermath, it is important for policymakers to resist the temptation of quick-fix solutions or protectionism and to maintain an overall favorable business climate.

VISIT CHINA NINGXIA, THE HOMETOWN OF THE STARS

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 8 (Bernama) — China Ningxia is an unique place where has brilliant weather conditions to see the twinkling stars. Therefore, it also owns the name “ the hometown of the stars”.  No matter at The Helan Mountains, Shapotou desert, The Great Wall or even in the Great Yellow River Valley,  you will get the best places to see the starry sky. The whole sky is filled with thousands of twinkling stars as night comes. There, you can have an intimate touch with the stars.

The Helan Mountains, highly covered with forest located at a latitude of 38 ° N, is the good place to watch Altair Star and Vega Star. Altair Star can be seen clearly from afar while Vega Star looks so bright. The position of these two stars are opposite each other in the Milky Way, seeming to be the Tanabata legend as known many hundreds of years ago, and now still shining brightly in the galaxy.

Camping and relaxing at night under the starry sky of Shapotou desert, you can explore the dreaming life by sharing the food and hearty stories with friends, and enjoying the holiday with a blazing bonfire to relief all your fatigues.

Here in Ningxia, you could also enjoy watching the sunrise and sunset at the daytime, seeing the moon and stars at the night, staying away from the hustle and bustle of the city, letting go the stresses of work and life, merging with nature, relaxing, immersing yourself into the vast starry sky, and embracing serenity and comfort which nature has given us. There is no hustle and bustle of the city here, only beautiful stars accompanying you to your dream world.

When the last glow of light disappears in the low mountains, the sky and the river are filled with dark blue while the stars twinkle. At the Huangsha Ancient Ferry, you can enjoy the sunrise from the desert, the sunset on the Yellow River, and the most beautiful starry sky. There is a faint camel bell sounding here, as if telling the story of a historic and lonely fort.
