GUANGXI’S ‘NIGHT ECONOMY’ STIMULATES DOMESTIC DEMAND, BOOSTS PEOPLE’S LIVELIHOOD

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 25 (Bernama) — The “night economy” in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region has played a significant role in stimulating domestic demand and serving to boost people’s livelihood there.

In recent years, the regional authorities released a series of policies to promote the night economy’s development, and all parts of the region have actively carried out activities such as night eating out, night viewing, night entertainment, and night shopping.

In a statement, the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Culture and Tourism Department said such night economic activities turn “traveller flow” into “traveller stay”, thereby effectively activating night consumption and boosting economic growth.

It said a number of national-level night culture and tourism consumption clusters, such as the “Three Streets and Two Alleys” in Nanning, the ASEAN Culture and Tourism Area in Nanning, and Yueye Dong Village in Liuzhou, have become the models for night economic development in Guangxi.

“In recent years, promoted by multiple favourable policies such as old city renovation and urban renewal, the once outdated ‘Three Streets and Two Alleys’, in downtown Nanning, have also taken a new lease of life,” it said.

In addition, as the night closes in, the street market in Nanning ASEAN Culture and Tourism Area is as bright as daytime, flowing with light and colour. It has gathered more than 2,000 night business entities and developed eight night-themed consumption activities.

To upgrade night consumption, Guangxi recently issued policies encouraging businesses to stay open late and focus on cultivating and building a number of night culture and tourism consumption clusters.

“Night economy has played an increasingly important role in releasing consumption vitality and promoting economic growth.

“We will continue to promote the innovation and development of the night economy; advance the integration of business, culture and tourism; vigorously develop new business formats and foster new scenes of night consumption; activate new hot spots of night consumption; and empower the upgrade of urban economy,” said Lai Fuqiang, deputy director of the region’s Department of Culture and Tourism.

MARY KAY ADVOCATES WOMEN EMPOWERMENT IN GENDER-RESPONSIVE PROCUREMENT

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 20 (Bernama) — Mary Kay Inc, a global champion for women’s empowerment and gender equality, has advocated the inclusion of women suppliers of services and products into the global value chain as a powerful strategy for companies to drive sustainable growth and social impact.

At the Diversity Summit held in Praque, Czech Republic, its global head of sustainability and social impact, Virginie Naigeon-Malek said investing in women-owned businesses and including them in the global supply chain is not only the right thing to do, it is also the smart thing to do for corporations.

Naigeon-Malek said that as women suppliers win more business, their families, local communities and national economies benefit.

“Studies show that women entrepreneurs tend to reinvest up to 90 per cent of their earnings in their families and communities, thus linking inclusive economic growth directly to development.

“Women businesses need to have an equal footing while competing for contract opportunities,” said Naigeon-Malek, who was one of the featured keynote speakers at the summit.

“At the summit, Mary Kay has shared with transparency its gender-responsive procurement (GRP) global journey,” it said in a statement.

Hosted by Startup Disrupt in September 2022, the summit was the largest European hybrid conference on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), bringing together more than 50 keynote speakers from the non-profit, government and business sectors.

Speakers and thought leaders shared insights on key topics such as leveraging DEI ecosystem with business goals; developing and sustaining DEI company culture; inclusive design and innovation; and women’s empowerment.

Travel and expense management software market to hit US$16 bln by 2027 – Juniper

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 18 (Bernama) — The global travel and expense (T&E) management software market is expected to hit US$16 billion in revenue by 2027 from US$8.7 billion this year, according to a new study by Juniper Research.

The study found that the risk of expense fraud would increase as hybrid working grows, with remote working offering the ideal environment for employees to submit fraudulent reports.

Juniper said in a statement that growing risks of employee expense fraud would drive demand for T&E management solutions.

It added that manual T&E management practices cannot detect expense fraud and are incapable of identifying all cases of fraudulent activity due to the volume of expense reports submitted.

In contrast, Juniper said, dedicated T&E management solutions could detect and resolve numerous types of expense fraud, such as duplicate claims, by leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) to detect new methods of fraud, saving businesses time and money.

Given these benefits are often overlooked, Juniper recommends vendors in the market prioritise the development of AI-based anti-expense fraud capabilities and demonstrate these benefits when marketing their solutions.

MARY KAY JOINS UN OCEAN STEWARDSHIP COALITION AS PART OF CONSERVATION COMMITMENT

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 19 (Bernama) — Mary Kay Inc, a global advocate for corporate sustainability and stewardship, has furthered its commitment to securing a healthy and productive ocean by recently joining the United Nations (UN) Global Compact’s Ocean Stewardship Coalition.

The coalition is an effort to bring together the private sector alongside UN agencies, academia, governments and non-governmental organisations to address biodiversity and climate change through a focus on ocean health.

“Nature-based solution projects led by women are revolutionising the way we protect our oceans for future generations.

“By joining the Ocean Stewardship Coalition, Mary Kay hopes to support these projects and inspire additional women to take action in their local communities,” Mary Kay chief operating officer Deborah Gibbins said in a statement.

The Ocean Stewardship Coalition seeks to leverage private sector involvement to increase ocean awareness and develop climate-smart innovation.

It also calls upon stakeholders, including business leaders, to use climate-smart policies to address environmental and climate injustices as well as adopt a human-centred approach to policy solutions.

In alignment with the Sustainable Ocean Principles and the Ocean Stewardship Coalition, Mary Kay has supported several projects this year in partnership with The Nature Conservancy.

This is to improve ocean health through the protection and restoration of critical habitats such as coral reefs, oyster reefs, and coastal wetlands, as well as to advance women’s leadership in conversation.

PRESTIGE BIOPHARMA SUBMITTED PRE-BLA TYPE 4 MEETING REQUEST TO FDA FOR HERCEPTIN BIOSIMILAR

SINGAPORE, Oct 14 (Bernama-BUSINESS WIRE) — Prestige Biopharma Limited, a Singapore-based biopharmaceutical company, has submitted a request to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for a pre-submission meeting to discuss the company’s planned Biologics License Application (BLA) for its Herceptin Biosimilar, HD201(Tuznue®).

The Biosimilar Biological Product Development (BPD) Type 4 Meeting is to discuss the format and content of a BLA in advance of the final submission. The company will discuss the overall development program of HD201 with the FDA to identify potential filing and review issues. The meeting is expected to take place around November, and the BLA submission by the end of the year.

Prestige Biopharma’s HD201 is a proposed biosimilar to Roche’s Herceptin® (trastuzumab) to be prescribed for the treatment of human epidermal growth factor 2 (HER2) positive breast and metastatic gastric cancer. Trastuzumab targets HER2, which is overexpressed in some types of cancer cells and stimulates the growth of the cancer cells. Trastuzumab works by selectively binding to HER2, thereby stopping the growth of these cancer cells.

Currently, a New Drug Submission (NDS) for HD201 is under review by Health Canada and a Marketing Authorisation Application (MAA) by the Korea Ministry of Food and Drug Safety. In addition to filing a new MAA to the European Medicines Agency (EMA), the company also plans to apply for authorisation in other advanced biosimilars markets such as UK, Australia, and Singapore.

Lisa Park, CEO of Prestige Biopharma, commented: “This Type 4 Meeting will be the final gate of BLA submission for HD201. In addition to the Bridging Study on biosimilarity of HD201 to US-Herceptin® and the Biosimilar Initial Advisory Meeting with FDA in 2019, we have been through a series of meetings with the FDA on each step of the development to prepare the launch of HD201 in US to help more patients in need. We will take this final step to thoroughly review and finalise the application for FDA’s approval.”
