TOURISM VIRTUAL ADVISORY CLINIC (T-VAC) ESTABLISHED FOR INDUSTRY PLAYERS AFFECTED BY COVID-19

KUALA LUMPUR, April 23 (Bernama) — Tourism Productivity Nexus (TPN) supported by Malaysia Productivity Corporation (MPC) is piloting Tourism Virtual Advisory Clinic (T-VAC) to give advisory on implementable recommendations to tourism industry players who are affected by COVID-19 crisis. More than 30 advisory clinics have been conducted until today from nearly 250 applications received within a week and more advisory sessions are planned which are expected to be concluded by the first week of May. Due to the overwhelming requests from the industry players, TPN and MPC will reopen to new applications sometime in May.

The pilot project of the virtual advisory clinics leverages the online meeting platform to connect the appointed advisor with the participating company. T-VAC aims to support as many companies as possible individually by providing consultations and advise in the areas of financial management, business operation, and industry structure.

Dato’ Abdul Latif Haji Abu Seman, Director-General of Malaysia Productivity Corporation (MPC) said industries have to rise quickly to adapt to the new normal by leveraging technology in coping with the disruptive impact of COVID-19 pandemic.

“This is the time of unusual business. The situation compels us to think, plan, and execute differently. During MCO, within these few weeks, technology has proven to affect performance, communication, and collaboration positively. Businesses, especially the SME players must adapt and leverage on technology in restarting their operations.”

MPC Director General further added that the virtual advisory clinics will be expanded to other industries upon the completion of the pilot project by Tourism Productivity Nexus (TPN). The execution will be implemented by productivity nexus, industry-led establishments under Malaysia Productivity Blueprint (MPB) under MPC’s purview.

Tourism as among the hardest hit industries by COVID-19 saw losses amounting to billions of ringgit until March 2020. Tourism Productivity Nexus (TPN) has so far conducted various programmes to support the industry players to manage the impact. TPN Champion, Encik Uzaidi Udanis, who is also Malaysia Inbound Tourism Association (MITA) and Malaysia Tourism Council (MTC) President emphasised that tourism industry players must work together starting from now to rebuild the industry.

“TPN is doing what we can to support the industry players. Online meeting platforms have enabled us to connect with each other to share strategies, plans, and insights on how to regrow the industry. Through our engagements with the industry players especially the micro, small and medium companies via T-VAC, we understand that the problem lies in the foundation of a business operation, financial management, and marketing and promotion.”

Encik Uzaidi Udanis called for more organisations, government or non-government, to connect with the stakeholders on the ground directly as this is how businesses are built and rebuilt.

IMU COLLABORATES WITH FUSIONEX TO INTEGRATE DIGITAL TECHNOLOGIES TO ENHANCE MEDICAL EDUCATION AND RESEARCH

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia April 20 (Bernama-BUSINESS WIRE) — Leading multi-award-winning data technology specialist Fusionex in collaboration with Malaysia’s pioneer private medical and health sciences education institution International Medical University (IMU) incorporates cutting-edge digital technologies into the university’s undergraduate programs in an initiative to support the increased demand for digital health as a direct result of the Covid-19 pandemic.

This press release features multimedia. View the full release here: https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20200417005172/en/

Both parties have expressed their total commitment to this initiative through the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) between IMU Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor Peter Pook and Fusionex Group CEO Dato’ Seri Ivan Teh during the Healthcare Big Data Analytics Forum.

This collaboration will see Fusionex’s Big Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence (AI) being implemented in various aspects of medical research and development to offer invaluable insights, reduce diagnostic and treatment periods, and expedite breakthroughs in medical research. These digital approaches to the medical field will allow students and educators to stay up-to-date regarding the spread of disease, receive better and more rapid health education, maintain consistent communication and improve decision making based on smart and holistic insights.

In order to furnish future healthcare providers with the right set of skills and knowledge, the collaboration will see cutting-edge data technologies being integrated into five IMU undergraduate programs. These programs are Bachelor of Pharmacy (Hons), BSc (Hons) in Medical Biotechnology, BSc (Hons) in Dietetics with Nutrition, BSc (Hons) in Nutrition, and BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Science. These programs will provide four outcomes: an overview of the analytics life cycle, how analytics is contributing to the healthcare industry, why making data-driven decisions is key for an organization, and how the effective use of analytical and AI skills can solve healthcare-related problems.

In addition, the MoA will allow Fusionex to provide trainers, data scientists and subject matter experts to educate and aid IMU remotely through Fusionex Academy. This move will equip and expose the faculty to the advantages of Big Data via in-depth lessons and practical applications for cultivating next-generation digital health experts.

“Confronted with the Covid-19 crisis, healthcare is moving swiftly towards a greater use of sophisticated and purposive digital technologies. Through its utilization, there is no doubt that it would greatly help the medical field overcome any mass health crisis that may erupt, such as the Coronavirus pandemic that we are facing now. As such, we are fully committed to partnering with IMU to nurture future healthcare providers who are able to make full use of innovative technology to save lives,” said Fusionex Group CEO Dato’ Seri Ivan Teh.

On March 31, the Sixth Asian Beach Games Sanya 2020 (hereinafter shortened as “SABG”) Organising Committee released the mascots in motion for the Games.
